Water ski is the most classic — and easiest to learn — way to glide on water. A ski on each foot, a tow handle in your hands, and the boat pulling you along. For anyone wanting to learn to stand on the water for the first time, it's the first activity we recommend on Belcekız Beach.
Balancing on two separate skis is far more intuitive than the single board of wakeboard. So most guests stand up on the first try, or within a few tries.

What Is Water Ski?
Water ski is gliding on the water with a ski on each foot, in a forward-facing stance, towed by a speedboat. It has a stance like snow skiing but is far simpler technically — no turning or braking to worry about; you just stay balanced and enjoy it.
The pull-up logic is the same as wakeboard but easier: you wait seated in the water, knees to your chest, ski tips up. When the boat pulls, you don't resist — you let the skis lift you and slowly straighten your knees. Two contact points (two skis) make balance naturally easier.
Water ski vs wakeboard
- Water ski: two skis, forward stance. Easy to learn, the first stand comes quickly. The ideal start for beginners.
- Wakeboard: single board, sideways stance. Harder to get up, but more tricks once learned.
Undecided? Start with water ski. You\'ll learn what standing on the water feels like; then we can move to wakeboard if you like.

How Is Water Ski Done in Ölüdeniz?
- Assess your level. Any water-ski or snow-ski experience? Let\'s talk.
- On-shore explanation. We show the stand-up position on land: knees bent, arms straight, body back.
- Life jacket and skis. Life jacket fitted, ski bindings adjusted to your foot size.
- Start in the water. Seated in the water, ski tips up, knees to chest, tow handle between the skis. The instructor calls "ready."
- First pull. The boat gives gentle throttle. Don\'t resist — the skis push you up, you just slowly straighten your knees. Pulling with the arms is the most common mistake.
- Standing up. Body upright, knees slightly bent, arms straight. Skis parallel and shoulder-width.
- Gliding. Once up, you trace a straight line behind the boat. As you relax you can try gentle side-to-side moves.
Falling forward or sideways on the first tries is normal. Our instructor gives one correction each time; most guests manage to stand within a few tries.

How Does It Feel? What to Expect
The most satisfying thing about water ski is how quickly you learn. The "first stand" that can take a few sessions on wakeboard usually happens the same day on water ski. Thanks to the natural balance of two skis, your brain figures out what to do fast.
When you get up and start tracing a straight line behind the boat, an unexpected calm appears. It's not a "struggle" like wakeboard; it's more like being in flow. Doing it on the glassy morning sea off Belcekız Beach is the moment many guests say "so it was easy after all." As your confidence grows you make gentle crossings, cutting the boat's wake for small jumps — and at that point you're ready to move to wakeboard.
Why us
Why No Name Water Sports?
- We suggest the right start. First time on the water? We recommend water ski so your chance of success is high.
- On-shore explanation. Showing the pull-up before you get in the water seriously improves your first-try odds.
- Patient instructor. One correction each time, so progress sticks and morale stays up.
- Morning sea. The best time for water ski is the flat morning; we recommend it.
- Footage support. Photo, drone and GoPro ready for your first stand.
Safety: non-negotiable for us
- Life jacket mandatory, on the whole ride.
- Swimming required. You take the starting position in the water and fall while learning.
- Ski bindings set correctly — to release easily on a fall.
- Let go of the tow handle when you fall. Hanging on strains the arm and shoulder.
- No intoxicated guests.
- No lesson if conditions aren\'t suitable.
How to fall
Simple: let go of the handle and relax. Water-ski falls are soft; the skis come off, the life jacket brings you up. After a fall, raise your hand, stay put — the boat comes to you and collects your skis.

What to Know About Water Skiing
Can I stand up on the first day?
Most guests do, and usually sooner than on wakeboard. Balancing on two skis is more intuitive; add the on-shore explanation and patient teaching, and the first session ends in success for most. Still, we can\'t guarantee it since everyone\'s balance differs.
Which time is best?
Morning. The flat, calm morning sea makes learning easier and softens falls. Off Belcekız the sea is usually glassy in the morning — ideal for water ski.
Can I move to wakeboard afterwards?
Absolutely, and it\'s a natural progression. Once you\'ve gained balance and the feel of being towed, moving to the single-board sideways stance of wakeboard is much easier. Want to try both the same day? Let\'s talk on the beach.
Record your first stand
We shoot professional photos from shore, follow with a drone when weather permits, and offer GoPro hire. Paid services.

Frequently asked questions about Water Ski
If you can’t find your answer, just message us on WhatsApp.
I've never water skied — can I learn?
Yes, water ski is the easiest way to learn to glide on water. Balancing on two skis is intuitive; with on-shore explanation and a patient instructor most guests stand up in the first session. We can't guarantee it since balance differs, but the success rate is high.
Which is easier, water ski or wakeboard?
Water ski. Balancing on two separate skis is far more intuitive than the single board of wakeboard. First time, we suggest water ski; once comfortable the move to wakeboard is faster.
Do I need to swim for water ski?
Yes, it's essential. You take the starting position in the water and fall while learning. For non-swimmers we suggest parasailing or banana instead.
What should I do on the first pull-up?
Don't resist. When the boat pulls, don't try to lift yourself with your arms; let the skis carry you and slowly straighten your knees. Keep your body back and arms straight. The most common mistake is pulling with the arms.
Is falling dangerous?
No. Water-ski falls are soft; the skis come off and the life jacket brings you up. The one rule: let go of the handle. After a fall, raise your hand and stay put — the boat comes to you.
Is water ski the same as "su kayağı"?
Yes, the same activity. "Su kayağı" is the Turkish name, "water ski" the English. At our centre on Belcekız Beach they mean the same thing.
Which time is best?
Morning. The flat, calm morning sea makes learning easier and softens falls. Afternoon chop makes it harder.
